Mobile App Design

In the spring of 2019, I was approached by a Seattle start-up and asked to help them design a mobile App for their new food delivery concept. They had very little to go on other than a rough text outline, a tiny budget, a short timeline, tons of exuberance, and plenty of ideas.

By no means is FoodRun a unique concept and there are already many competitors in the field which I’m already familiar with. Equipped with my UX/UI skills and Adobe XD, I quickly ideate an initial concept based on the client’s wish list of features.

Gathering Requirements

Having defined the requirements for this project I started to sketch and wireframe to begin to see the basic functionality of the app I also decided to explore similar apps such as Caviar. Dinner Dash. Grub Hub and Uber Eats to see what their take on food delivery is. just to get some ideas.

I want to keep the interlace clean a. simple to use because this is primarily a driver’s app. I would also want to explore voice-activated navigation. ‘Where’s the closest pick-up location?”, “Open directions in Google Maps.”, “Search for drop-off locations that start with Q”.

Design guidelines provide context

I’m careful to provide detailed notes and guidelines for developers to provide context. In my guidelines, I include colors, typography details, and user flows to show progression. The entire product along with all of its features is eventually laid out in an exploded view for the development team. I like to take the time to walk developers through each feature in person to answer any questions they may have upfront and early in the game.
